2 Industrial Revolution Begins in Britain
A different type of revolution transformed the way people worked The Industrial Revolution 1700: Wealthy landowners began buying much of the village land Dramatically improved farming methods within large fields called enclosures Experimented with productive seeding to boost crops Process of crop rotation proved to be one of the best developments- Farmers planted one crop each year (Wheat, Turnips, Barley, etc…) As food supplies increased, England’s population mushroomed Boosted demand for food & cloth Many farmers became factory workers 2

3 Why the Industrial Rev Began in England
In addition to a large population, the small island country had extensive natural resources Industrialization requires natural resources Process of developing machine production of goods Natural Resources Included: Water power & coal to fuel machines Iron ore to construct machines, tools, & buildings Harbors from which ships set sail 3

4 Britain's Economy Britain's expanding economy supported businessmen investing in the manufacturing of new inventions Banking system encouraged the availability of loans to invest in new machines Overseas trade increased demand for goods Britain’s political stability gave country advantage Military success gave British a positive attitude Parliament passed laws to help encourage & protect business ventures Britain had all the factors of production Resources need to produce goods & services Include Land, Labor, Capital (Wealth) 4
