1 Evaluation Brogan Money

2 In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

3 For the making of the local newspaper my main task there were obvious conventions to take in to account: adverts, title, date headline and main image. When sticking to this convention it made the product real as possible. I looked at real local newspapers to look at the conventions that were notable, such as the date and the price. However once designing my local newspaper, I found lost at some parts like there was too much white space and I didn't know why. Going back to my research and looking back at the conventions and little details that made a newspaper you found little factors that are there in every newspaper however very small. For example, of the second page the article of the front cover continued to my second page however once ended there was little black line to show that the article had finished and the article underneath was entirely different. Other conventions included was the writer of the article and there and also at the top of my second page i included the of the newspaper itself. With a2 media i have learnt that everything is growing in technology and we find most products, and people using the internet now. Have got a voice and want to express, so with the addition of the address it shows that people can now be included and give there opinion and straight to the writers.

4 Similarly with my poster I had also followed my previous research on poster belonging to other newspapers. Both newspaper I analysed showed little text, there logo(title), images of the newspaper it self within the poster and a little information at the bottom of the poster. I feel I used most of these conventions however challenged an element of it as my newspaper had more text. I felt the it was acceptable as the product I was promoting was new, nobody had heard of it before so needed more text and description about the newspaper for it to contain all of the information the consumer would need like the price and where to purchase it. With the conventions for the poster I felt suited my target audience extremely as with my research I found out that people preferred images over text, so I felt with the poster initially as the first thing my readers will see before the actual newspaper it portrays the style of the newspaper, informal, with images moreover than text. Furthermore looking at the conventions on previous poser like the lo9go included I felt it made it authentic and showed this was the poster that advertised the new local newspaper where people live.

5 With convention for the radio ad, for the radio ad it self and the research for making it I found the hardest to get hold off, however I looked at previous students work on YouTube and listened and analysed. My advert is only 30 seconds long, short however to grab my audiences attention in that short amount of time with all the information needed. Looking at different students work I saw the different styles and ways they presented there work, with some being two speakers (link in blue) with a role play situation however link in red shows a different way of delivering there radio ad with one speaker with a sound track in the background lightly played with it being very simple and straight to the point. When researching radio ads I came across many good websites to help me and tell me about radio ads and typical conventions expected. With these helpful tips I went to writing my script and designing a short 30 second radio ad. I used conventions like music at the ginning and stopping at the end to show the advert has stopped. Furthermore, convention like having an upbeat voice to grab my audiences attention and get them interested and to know more. In the advert i mention where to buy the newspaper, the price and what the newspaper contains. This is all useful information to my audience and includes al reasons why to buy the new local newspaper in there area.

6 These clips above show are screenshots of websites information about radio ads as i had never done a radio ad before it was very useful these websites and helped me create a radio and and script to start out to make it it as conventional and professional as possible.

7 How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?
All of the tasks to be created I felt went together, gave an insight if creating a new local newspaper was the areas that have to be covered to advertise the product to you target audience. I felt they were very effective, working with each other with the colour of the red kept the same throughout and the factor of it having more images than text. The poster and the radio advert I felt was very affective they promoted the main product, telling and repeating the price and where to purchase the newspaper. The ancillary tasks even though were smaller the same research and planning had to be taken place to make them as effective and realistic as possible.

8 The ancillary tasks were the build to the final product
The ancillary tasks were the build to the final product. The advert and the poster had to show and represent what the newspaper itself would be like and I think I achieved this. With my poster being with images and fewer text and with my advert being short and straight to the point using an up beat voice to show it isn’t a serious newspaper and it is suited to all. I feel my main task was effective also with making of it using typical conventions learning from other and keeping the colour scheme throughout showing that shade of read was with the Loughton Local it made subtle for my target audience. Together with the main task and ancillary tasks I feel work well extremely helping to promote the main task and shows the work that goes it promoting a new product on the market to the target audience.

9 What have you learned from your audience feedback?
Melanie, aged 35, Woodford “ I feel the newspaper is current, now, and is targeted to everybody's needs, with articles for adults, adverts for both adults and teenagers and the text very easy to read” James, 17, Buckhurst Hill “ I'm a student in Essex, I would buy the paper as it shows many job advertisement, looking for jobs in my are a may help very much. Also I like that there are more images than text easier to follow” Linda 36, Loughton “ I live in Essex and this seems the newspaper I would get to find out local news in my area. As an adult i would like to see more text to read and to know more, however easy to read and is a paper that attracts everyone”

10 From my feed back, I asked people from different ages to see if it suited different ages and sexes. I am pleased with the out come, from y research before hand I found people expect and want job advertisements in the newspaper. So following the research included adverts that suited everyone both boys and girls. With the comes saying it is ‘easy to read’ is a good point to me as I wanted to create a newspaper with text and images included to attract both, however making it informal suiting working class people and teenagers in education. With the one negative point made ‘ see more text to read more’ with this it is very hard to create something suiting everybody, I understand that point however with my research before hand I decided I wanted to go with my research findings of people I asked preferred more text than images. With response to that point I included at the bottom of the article to go the website to find out more. This gives the reader, if they want to , to find out more get involved and express there opinion. Over all I am very pleased with my newspaper, trying to create an Essex based newspaper which I felt I have keeping to conventions of a newspaper to make it as realistic possible with the little details that people expect to see in a newspaper.

11 How did you use media technologies in the research and planning, construction and evaluation stages?
I used media technologies throughout process and for example for the research and planning the internet, looking at other people finding help;ing me collect and learn from other people work. also on youtube, watching videos and voice clips with research. For the radio ad media technologies helped me very much with the internet looking at other students work, i had to start at the beginning making a radio advertisement was new for my and after researching and looking at chat website where people answer question like Yahoo Answers it gave me what i needed like the average length of a radio and the how to create a script. Another programme i used throughout was Photoshop with creating skeleton layouts, mock ups, final design and also my poster. Skelton

12 This programme was used throughout, being able to create my adverts, editing photos, resize and create my whole main task and ancillary task on. For my radio ad I recorded it on my iPhone, using to send to my self another programme on a Mac computer called Final Cut Pro. This programme I had never used before however after a few attempts was able to create my final radio add, allowing my to cut, crop, edit and ad d music in the background. This programme was every good as it allowed me to have my music how I wanted it with it loud for 2 seconds at the beginning of the radio ad, with no speech then still playing throughout however one a lower volume and then cutting the music to end when the speaking stops showing the end of the advert. Throughout he whole project I was able to use the internet and a blogging website to upload my work, plans out lines, and final pieces. Also when doing to the project at the end of every lesson being about to create a production log to show what we had achieved out thoughts and feelings about it and to show our progress.
