4 Graduation Requirements
Students will earn a NC High School Diploma by completing WSFCS graduation requirements following the Future Ready Core Course of Study. Refer to pp. 4 in HS Registration Handbook Class of 2017 & beyond = 22 units required to graduate

8 Transcript Review Weighted GPA (QPA) – includes honors courses; higher than unweighted if student enrolls in honors courses Unweighted GPA – assigns standard weight for courses to calculate grade point average A = 4 points (regular); 5 points (honors); 6 points (AP) B = 3 points (regular); 4 points (honors); 5 points (AP) C = 2 points (regular); 3 points (honors); 4 points (AP) D = 1 point (regular); 2 points (honors); 3 points (AP) F = 0 points for all levels To calculate GPA: Total points earned divided by # units attempted = GPA/QPA

Students are promoted based on the total number of credits earned 10th grade – 5 Units 11th grade – 9 units 12th grade – 15 Units Class of 2017 & beyond must earn 22 credits to graduate

14 Career Center Central location for WSFCS students offering AP and Vocational courses Career Center Quick Reference Limited transportation is provided East/Career Center does not guarantee courses offered based on transportation needs Some courses have fees attached to them (e.g. Cosmetology - $400, Photography – requires specific camera, Culinary Arts – requires purchase of uniform) that must be paid Summer 2016 Cosmetology is a 3 hour courses with mandatory requirements outside of normal class time (some weekends and evenings) and/or summer internships

WSFCS students can register for courses online IF: *WSFCS does not offer a course in which your are interested *There is a schedule conflict *Seniors need a course to graduate *PRINCIPAL APPROVES Grades are reported on transcripts – NO EXCEPTIONS *No Tuition for WSFCS students* Explore the website at

16 Dual Enrollment at FTCC
WSFCS students can register for classes at FTCC campuses for a reduced fee through the NC Career & College Promise program if they: Have a 3.0 GPA Are at least a Junior Apply to FTCC Complete a Permission Form Provide SAT/ACT scores OR take Accuplacer (administered at FTCC) Meet FTCC course pre-requisites The courses fits student’s schedule *NO transportation provided *Families are responsible for paying fee of approximately $70 *Final grades entered on transcript (honors credit) – NO EXCEPTIONS

Example of Placement Guideline for English Rising 10th Graders who have completed English I who scored in 463 – 465 on 8th Grade EOG should be placed in English II There are guidelines for all core areas that use EOG or EOC scores and/or current grades as predictors of appropriate core course levels

19 Parent Choice Process Parents who feel their students are misplaced based on WSFCS assignment principles may elect to have student placed in a different course A copy of this form will be on the reverse side of the Registration Information Letter 2016 High School Registration Letter 2016 Parent Choice Form

21 Online Registration All students will be selecting courses online
Students MUST claim their accounts BEFORE they are able to register online 9th & 10th graders are REQUORED to select 8 classes (credits) and 2 alternates before they can submit/save course requests 11th & 12th graders who are attending Career Center are REQUIRED to select 7 classes (8 if at East all day) and 2 alternates before they can submit/save course requests

24 Individual Registration Meetings
Teachers will bring their classes to Counseling Office February 18 – March 24 for individual registration meetings with Counselors to finalize online selections All students should select courses via Student Portal February 12 – February 22 ***Students may be in 2 classes that are scheduled for registration days…you are expected to be prepared to finalize registration on the 1st date

25 Individual Registration Meetings
Students MUST claim their accounts ASAP in order to register online (all students have copies of online registration instructions) Students MUST register for 8 courses and 4 alternates (including core, electives) BEFORE meeting with their Counselor Alternate course selections will be used if there is a schedule conflict or low enrollment in a course Students will not be allowed to register for TA or early release periods Select electives prior to meeting date
