1 First Year Milestones

2 During the First Month Mostly All Physcial
Red face Pointy head Spindly limbs that tremble and shake Skin that is bumpy or peeling Sucking and grasping reflexes Cries and sleeps

3 Month One (cont) Mostly Intellectual
Focus on your face, crib toys, and mobiles Calm down when spoken to (Emotional) Startle, cry, or quiet down in response to loud or sudden noises Make an “ah” sound when he sees your face and hears you speak (Social)

4 Month Two Smile in response to your smile E
Begin to track an object with their eyes I Make a variety of gurgles, grunts, and humming sounds to express feelings S/I Lift head 45 degrees when lying on stomach P Recognize breast or bottle and squirm eagerly for it when hungry P/I Bat at a toy with closed fist P Keep head up when held in sitting position (with occasional bobs forward) P

5 Month Three Lift head up 90 degree when on stomach P
Bring both hands together P Laugh and chuckle E Smile from across the room (vision improving) E/S Roll from stomach to back P Follows object with head to follow it I

6 Month Four P : Roll from stomach to back and back to stomach
I/P: Put everything within reaching distance into mouth I/S: Increase sounds – blowing, shrieking, chuckling P:Hold head steady when held in sitting position P:Grasp and shake a rattle P:Reach for an object, but often overshoots the mark I:Fascinated for minutes exploring own hands

7 Month Five P: Briefly sit in a tripod formation
P: Lift both arms and legs in a Superman pose while on stomach P: Do modified push-ups and make swimming motions with arms and legs S: Delight in his own reflection I: Enjoy rhythm and music I: Become better at bringing objects to mouth for oral exploration

8 Month Six P :Sit independently
P: Push up hands and knees in a crawling position and rock back and forth I: Make consonant-vowel sounds such as “ba,” “ma,” “pa,” and “do,” and put them together P: Hold onto own bottle S/E: Cry when mom or dad leave room P: Support most of own weight when held in standing position

9 Month Seven P : Stand with support
P: Go from a sitting to a crawling position I: Babbling to Communicate some of basic needs

10 Month Eight P: Feed self a cracker or small pieces of food
I: Look for a dropped object P: Take sips from a cup S: Peek A Boo P/I: Use index finger to poke at things, especially when reading with parents

11 Month Nine Crawl up stairs Say “mama” or “dada”
Creep, crawl, or take a few steps with some support Enjoy water play Feed himself finger food and may have taste preferences Respond to name

12 Month Ten P: Stand with little support
P: Sit down from a standing position P: Roll a ball S/I: Pretend to talk on a toy telephone I: Repeat sounds and gestures for attention (Baby Signing) P: Pick up small objects between thumb and forefinger Video Clip ..

13 Month Eleven I: Make long babbling sentences that are clear words and some unclear words I : Say one word other than “mama” or “dada” P : Hold out arm or leg to help get dressed S: Drop objects for someone else to pick up P: Drink independently from a cup I: Understand simple commands such as “Bring me the book” or “Hug the teddy” P: Take a step without holding on to anything

14 Month Twelve S/E: Give kiss on request S/I: Give and take a toy
P: Walking with or without help I/S: Point to objects that want I: Imitate activities of adults or older siblings, such as brushing hair S: Play to a crowd and repeat an action if audience laughs I/P: Enjoy pull and push toys I/P: Scribble with a chunky crayon if you take paper to a work surface
