Mail shot : Piece of advertising material sent to potential customers by post. Tabloid : Newspaper printed in small format, usually with a lot of photographs. U.S.P : Unique Selling Proposition; a declaration of what makes a product different. Spam : Unsolicited advertising sent through the internet as an email message. Sound bite : Short extract from a recorded interview or speech. Double-page spread : Advertisement printed across two pages in a newspaper or magazine. Generic advertising : Advertising for a whole sector, such as tourism, rather than a specific product. Vocabulary

Jingle : Catchy tune, with a short simple rhyme, used to promote a product. Prime time : Hours on radio & TV with the largest audience, usually the evening. Key words : Informative words chosen to indicate the content of a document. Slogan : Phrase used to advertise a product, or to identify a company or organization. Word of mouth : When people tell their friends, family and co-workers about products they like, a free form of advertising. Liquidated : Sold to generate cash.

It is also done to build a brand identity, communicate changes in old products, or introduce new product/services to the customers. There are several reasons for advertising, some of which are:  Increasing the sales of the product/service.  Creating and maintaining a brand identity or brand image.  Communicating a change in the existing product line.  Introduction of a new product or service.  Increasing the buzz-value of the brand or the company.
