They also go around the exact words a writer uses. – Shakespeare wrote, “Juliet is the sun.” Use parentheses [ ( ) ] to include material that you want to de- emphasize or that wouldn't normally fit into the flow of your text but you want to include nonetheless. We use these to cite the source of a quotation, which is important to include, even if it doesn’t flow with the sentence. – Romeo said, “Juliet is the sun” (Shakespeare 2.2.3).
