8 TH GRADE PRE-REGISTRATION Welcome to DHS Class of 2020

DHS Counselors The following will be your counselor for the four years that you will be attending DHS. A – L: Mr. Hodson M – Z: Mrs. Ebert

Terms to Know Semester – The school year is made up of two semesters. Credits – You receive.5 credit for each semester class that you pass. Graduation Requirement – Specific courses that you must pass to graduate. Electives – Courses that are not specifically required to graduate (i.e. Foreign Language).

English Options English Honors – A challenging class for self-motivated readers and writers. Summer reading is required and students must purchase the novels. English 9

Social Studies Choose one or two S.S. Electives

Math Math I Math II (If you took Math I @RMS) Some students will be recommended for a Double Block Math I class.

Science Options Biology – This is your only option for Science as a Freshman. However, you do not have to take a science class your Freshman year because you only need 3 years of science to graduate from DHS.

PE and Health Must pick at least one semester of the following: Sports PE –Will only be 2 nd semester if you’re in Football or Basketball. Health – All must pick health (one semester) PE Weightlifting Total Body Fitness (Must provide your own Yoga Mat)

Computer Tech Computer Applications I (one semester) Computer Apps II (one semester; must have Computer Apps I first)

Driver’s Education If your student turns 15 during Freshman year and before April 30 th, they are eligible for Driver’s Ed. Please pick the appropriate quarter for your student. This is considered an elective and they will receive.5 credit.

Spanish I The Spanish Department recommends that you have a C or better in your English class to be successful in Spanish I. Spanish is NOT required to graduate from DHS. Of the 12 public Illinois Universities, the U of I is the only one that REQUIRES a minimum of 2 years of foreign language to be accepted. The remaining 11 recommend it, but don’t require it.

Study Hall Study halls are not worth credit, but it gives students a class period to get homework done or prepare for test/quizzes.
