4 Aims of the Course The primary aim of this course is to introduce the key concepts and techniques of statistics This course will highlight the application of statistical analysis in life sciences and equip the students with the necessary tools to solve a wide variety of problems

5 Learning Outcomes By the end of the semester, students will be able to: Show a clear understanding of the basic concepts in statistics Use statistical tools to analyze data sets and draw conclusions Critically evaluate results of surveys and experiments in health science literature

6 Course Policies Lectures will cover every topic of the course. If I do not cover a topic, it will not be on exams PowerPoint presentations will be available on TSR: TSR > SPRING > PHR > ZQH > PHR 211 I will emphasize active learning during lecture Short in-class exercise Pair-share or small-group activity I will make the grading scheme available after every exam Attendance is mandatory. If a student misses more than 30% of the classes, s/he will not be allowed to take the final examination Tardiness will be strongly discouraged. 10 Academic Integrity “Each student in this course is expected to abide by the BRAC University Code of Academic Integrity. Any work submitted by a student in this course for academic credit will be the student's own work. Also refer to plagiarism policy that will be on the web. “You are encouraged to study together and to discuss information and concepts covered in lecture and the sections with other students. You can give "consulting" help to or receive "consulting" help from such students. However, this permissible cooperation should never involve one student having possession of a copy of all or part of work done by someone else, in the form of an e-mail, an e-mail attachment file, a diskette, or a hard copy. “If copying occurs, both the student who copied work from another student and the student who gave material to be copied will both automatically receive a zero for the assignment. Penalty for violation of this Code can also be extended to include failure of the course and University disciplinary action. During examinations, you must do your own work. Talking or discussion is not permitted during the examinations, nor may you compare papers, copy from others, or collaborate in any way. Any collaborative behavior during the examinations will result in failure of the exam, and may lead to failure of the course and University disciplinary action.” Reference: Course Outline Template.
