1 Junior Naviance Advisory Lesson 4th Quarter

2 Where are YOU at in College Planning? At this point, you are in the midst of doing our college research and exploring where you are interested in attending college & what you want to do. You should be taking the ACT or SAT in April or June. Many of you might have taken tours over spring break to colleges.

3 What We Will Cover Today… In our Advisory class today, you will do the following: 1. Find & Review scholarships in Naviance. 2.Build our resume from grades 9, 10, and this year. This is key to do if we need letters of recommendation. It is also very helpful when we are applying to a university to have as a guide. 3.Add/remove/update your list of colleges your are “Thinking About” list.

4 Remember How to Log Into Naviance Student Links Naviance

5 First part of computer log in – ex. kaurenda Date of Birth – WITHOUT spaces/dashes Ex. 03071995 NEW STUDENTS TO BV WEST – USE your student id #/Lunch code for the password.

6 Go to the “Colleges” Tab.

7 Click on “Scholarship List”

8 You can browse by category…

9 Clicked on a specific scholarship to see if it is one I want to do… Read through the information.

10 Click on website for additional info…

11 Click for National Scholarship

12 Fast Web Another great scholarship resource is www.fastweb.com www.fastweb.com It takes about 25 minutes to complete and you might need to ask your parents some questions. You will need to use an email address you actually check.

13 Find TWO Scholarships for Yourself – Right Now. The most difficult part of looking for scholarship money is that it takes time. If you can set aside 30 minutes a week to looking, searching, reading, and writing you too can get money for college! TIME IS MONEY – MAKE THE TIME TO FIND THE MONEY!

14 Did You Already Find Your Scholarships? IF or IF you have found two scholarships. Work on them or continue to work on your resume on Naviance in the “About Me” tab.

15 Entries into your Resume  Work History: (Wendy’s grade 10 part time cashier)  Education – Where do you attend high school?  Volunteer/Community Service Hours  Awards/Honors  Athletic Achievement: (Team Captain, Won state, district, etc.)  Extracurricular Activities: (play bass in church choir, Girl Scout/Boy Scout, marching band, etc.)  Skills/Academic Achievements: (Academic Letters, Honor Roll, Department Award, etc.)  Leadership: (Boys State, HOBY, Leadership trainings/camps, etc.)

17 Update by editing your list – adding/removing and changing your interest levels.
