2 Principles for promoting your work Be accurate but interesting Acknowledge your collaborators and your institution Declare any conflicts Be aware of being public Manage your professional communications carefully Who is going to promote your work? The journal? Your institute or division? You!

Make you publications Open Access Build and maintain your profiles Get a QUT Staff Profile Get an ORCID Create a Google Scholar profile Create lay summaries of your works Kudos Link it all together Add ePrints, ORCID etc. to email signature Add ePrints link to your ORCID Add social media links to your staff profile Share your work Twitter Blogs Research Gate The Conversation Etc…

4 Make your pubs Open Access It is vital in the promotion of research via social media It really couldn’t be very effective without it Put your publications into QUT ePrints, or publish in Open Access journals where possible/appropriateQUT ePrints

15 Tweeting tips 1 in 4 tweets - directly about your work 1 tweet – a reply to someone you follow 1 tweet - a link to something useful 1 tweet - a retweet Ask questions as well as making statements Best when it’s both professional & personal The tone mimics face to face interaction (not print) The more people tweet, the bigger their network
