2. Philosophy  The basic purpose for this PowerPoint is to let you know what I expect from you, the student, and what you can expect this year in my classroom. My philosophy toward education and learning boils down to three classroom rights. In addition to school rules, these rights assure that learning can occur on a daily basis.  Classroom Rights:  I have the right to teach.  You have the right to learn.  No one will interfere with these rights.  What does this mean for you? It means everything will run smoothly if you practice mutual respect. Respect for this classroom, for your classmates, for me, and for yourself. 3. Rules  Along with rights, there are five basic rules a student must follow in my classroom. These rules are:  Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself.  No profanity.  No iPods, mp3 players, cell phones, iPads, etc unless they are being used in the educational process. If I haven’t told you to research something, you don’t need an electronic device..  No sleeping (This includes the “I’m not sleeping, I’m just putting my head down” excuse.)  If you bring food or drinks in the classroom you must throw your trash away. If it doesn’t end up in the trash, the ability to bring food or drinks in the classroom will be suspended.  Along with rights, there are five basic rules a student must follow in my classroom. 6. Desks  Do not move the desk unless you are asked to do so.  Please sit in your assigned seats. This facilitates the attendance process.  Do not write on items that don’t belong to you. (desks, floor, walls, etc.) It should go without saying, but it happens!  Don’t touch anyone else’s desk or personal space.  Obviously, this list isn’t all inclusive, but you get the idea. All of these have become issues before, or they wouldn’t be on the “don’t do it list”, so please refrain from these activities.  There are often confidential papers (grades, IEPs, health forms, etc.) on my desk. Therefore, my desk, and the space behind the desk, is off limits. This rule also applies to cabinets and closets.  Do not move the desk unless you are asked to do so.  Please sit in your assigned seats. 7. Emergency  In the event of an emergency or drill, an alarm (typically fire alarm) will sound. At the alarm, you are to line up at the door. Each class will have someone who is responsible for leading the class out during an alarm. There are separate procedures for yellow or red lock down situations.

8. Bellringer  Every day there will be a bellringer on the board. You must complete these bellringers daily and keep them in your notebook. Weekly, I will collect your bellringers. Since you have four bellringers a week, each bellringer is worth 25 points (for a total 100 point assignment). If you are absent, write absent on your bellringer sheet. Otherwise, you are expected to turn in four bellringers at the end of the week.
