READER’S THEATER TERMS AND TECHNIQUES Literature in plays and performances

Reader’s Theater defined… Connects oral reading, literature and drama. A form of literature that is meant to be read in front of an audience.

The purpose of Readers Theater to make printed words come alive through the characters.

Students develop fluency and expression using: volume pitch stress intonation

DRAMA TERMS SCRIPT: The written form of a play; usually includes dialogue and a cast of characters. CAST OF CHARACTERS: A list of all the characters in the play, often in order of appearance and usually found at the beginning of the script. DIALOGUE: The words that characters speak aloud.
