6.2 Effects of the French & Indian War

The Frontier British colonists began moving west of the Appalachian Mts. – Why? Ohio River Valley – Soil was good for farming – Valley was full of wild game for hunting Pioneer’s are heading West… into the Frontier CONFLICTWITH NATIVE AMERICANS

Conflict in the Ohio River Valley Conflict: Britain believed they were entitled to all the land France once controlled (Great Lakes Region). Pontiac’s Rebellion! “How comes it that you suffer the whites on your land? Can’t you do without them? You might live wholly as You did before you knew them…Those who come to trouble your country, drive them out, make war [on] them! They are my enemies and the enemies of your brothers!” -Pontiac

The Proclamation of 1763 Tensions with American Indians worried British officials. 1.They feared more fighting. 2. Disrupt trade in the region 3. Force GB to spend more $$ on defense.

The Proclamation of 1763 Proclamation of 1763: law that banned settlement west of the Appalachian Mts. – Also ordered colonists living in the OH River Valley to leave. HOWEVER….. Most colonists ignored the Proclamation & GB found it difficult to enforce.
