Integrating Strategies Introduction Jackie Wilkins

Major Changes Integration of previously separate strategies Move to an outcomes focused approach

Why did we make these changes? The Concordat Experience of the last round of Local Housing Strategies

How does this affect what you have to do? A lot of things are the same: Understanding of key issues and problems Clear view on what you are trying to achieve Engaging with internal and external stakeholders Equalities dimension

What’s new? New emphasis on defining outcomes Strategy development process at the same time in related policy areas New opportunities to think through things in the round - relationship between key issues - impact of actions in one area on outcomes in another

Is this about integrating outcomes or activities? High level check on outcomes Maximising the impact that actions can make in delivering more than one outcome

How do we integrate the strategies into the LHS? Be clear about the key issues Be clear about national priorities and targets Define a set of draft outcomes and key actions in each policy area Look at draft outcomes and key actions in all policy areas in the round

Looking at things in the round? Consider outcomes you want to achieve across the piece Think through how outcomes relate to each other and check they are ‘pointing in the same direction’ Make sure key activities maximise contribution to meeting outcomes in connected areas Consider whether adjustments are needed in outcomes or activities to maximise spin-off benefits

Continued… Collaborative process Variety of approaches Revisiting some areas Local Housing Strategy as management tool

What’s the role of the Local Housing Strategy Officer? Timetabling and programming Co-ordinating and project management Facilitating Overseeing engagement and consultation
