Construction The Titanic was built in Belfast Ireland and was owned by a British shipping company, White Star Line. Construction began on March 31,1909. In May 1911, the Titanic was ready to be launched.

White Star Line White star line was founded in 1845 in Liverpool by John Pilkington and Henry Wilson. They were mainly focused on Australia gold mine trade. They started focusing on making ships after becoming rich from the gold mine trade.

Voyage Before the Titanic left for New York, they stopped at Southampton, England on April 3rd 1912. More than 1,000 passengers got onboard, when the Titanic was docked.

Captain and crew The Captain of the Titanic was Captain Smith. Out of the crew, there was 899 members, including the captain and the officers. 214 crew members were saved and 685 lives were lost.

First-Class First-Class passengers were treated better and had more stuff to do onboard, such as access to a gymnasium, swimming pool and a library. Passengers in First-Class paid $4,246 in 1912 to get onboard. 329 First-class passengers were onboard, 199 lives were saved and 130 lives were lost.

Second-Class Second-Class passengers didn’t have luxurious rooms or entertainment, they just had a basic little room. There weren’t a lot of Second-Class passengers onboard. There were 285 passengers onboard in Second-Class, 119 passengers were saved and 166 lost.

Third-Class Most Third-Class passengers were immigrants and wanted to start a new life in America. It didn’t cost much to get into Third-Class, because they didn’t have luxurious rooms or entertainment. There were 710 passengers in Third-Class, 174 saved and 536 lost.

Lifeboats The main reason why so many lives were lost, was because they was only 20 life boats for more than 2,000 passengers. The rule onboard the Titanic was, women and children got on lifeboats first. The lifeboats were not as full as they should of been.

Unsinkable? On April 14th,1912 the titanic was in North Atlantic Ocean when it struck an iceberg and sank two hours after impact. More than half of the passengers died. Women and children got on lifeboats first; so more women and children survived.

Rescue! Before the Titanic sank, it sent out distress signals for any near by ships. The ship that received the signal and got to the crash site was the Carpathia. At 4:10 am the first survivor was onboard the Carpathia.

Questions? Q: How much did the Titanic weigh? A: 66,000 tons. Q: Who was steering the Titanic when it struck the iceberg? A: Quarter master Robert Hichens. Q: Where was the Titanic's destination? A: New York.
