Mr. Robert Arnold Math

Homework Policies Homework helps reinforce the concepts taught in class, and it is expected to be NEATLY organized. Disorganization causes many errors. Homework must be completed in PENCIL and please encourage your child to ERASE errors instead of scribbling through them. Homework must be completed by the due date to earn credit (unless absent). Homework is normally graded on completion, so 100% is earned if ALL problems are attempted (even word problems)!

Weekly Homework Grades Homework is checked every day for completion. A WEEKLY homework grade is earned based on an average of the completion grades for the week. For example, if there were 5 homework assignments for a week, those 5 completion grades are averaged for the weekly grade. We do go over the correct solutions in class and questions are discussed.

Homework Help We try to give the students 5-10 minutes to begin homework at the end of class so students can ask questions at that time. Students are always allowed to come and ask me during home room. They need to ask their teacher for a pass to come and see me. Please utilize the multitude of resources available. There is an online textbook and the students have a math notebook which should contain notes AND examples.

Weekly Warm-Up Grades Warm ups are completed at the beginning of most classes. Students are expected to TRY their best on the problems. We then discuss and solve the problems, and students are allowed to correct any errors. At the end of the week, the students take a short warm-up quiz which addresses the same concepts we studied all week during warm-ups.

Weekly Warm-Up Grades Continued The quiz grade accounts for HALF of the weekly warm up grade. The other HALF comes from the other days’ warm ups which are turned in and graded for accuracy (but the solutions were gone over each day at the beginning of class).

Math Notebook The students are responsible for keeping a math notebook which will be graded before tests. The notes & examples are completed in class. I post a link to the sections we complete on my blog for students who are absent or if a student missed a part during class. Students are encouraged to use their notebooks for homework help and to study for quizzes and tests. Homework assignments should also be completed in the notebook. Parents/Guardians are encouraged to use the notebook if you are trying to help your child.

Grade Categories Test & Projects = 40% Projects, tasks and class work are accepted one day late for a 10 point deduction, two days for 20 points off, three days late for 30 points off, 4 days for 40 points off and 5 days late for a 50 point deduction. No assignments will be accepted after being 5 days late. Quizzes & Performance Tasks = 30% Daily Activities = 30% (this category includes homework, warm-ups and in-class activities) Homework must be completed by the due date to earn credit (unless absent). Homework must be completed in PENCIL to earn credit.

Blog To access the blogs, go to the McClure homepage Click on “Faculty & Staff” at the top Find “Sixth Grade” Under “Math,” click on “Robert Arnold” to view the blog or to . The Blog will be updated each day by 6:00pm.

Supplies Needed A NOTEBOOK – a 3 or 5-subject one will be needed now, and another one when we return in January SCOTCH TAPE or a SMALL STAPLER with STAPLES A FOLDER to keep warm-ups, graded work, paper and homework sheets PENCILS (extra lead if mechanical) & ERASERS LINED or GRAPH PAPER (student choice) A DRY ERASE MARKER for in-class use

Distribution List We will try to create a distribution list to math information to those wanting the updates The s will include: The topics of study in the unit The textbook sections which accompany the unit so you can use either the textbook or the online textbook resources – students have received a sticker to put in their agenda with directions for accessing the online text. They are also provided on my blog Upcoming quiz and test dates

Online Grade Book We try to make sure grades are updated weekly. Please check the online grade book to monitor how your child is progressing. Due to being on semesters versus quarters this year, report cards grades are not finalized until after 18 weeks of grades have accumulated.

Contact Information If you want to contact me, is the preferred method. If you call, a message will be put in my mailbox so it will take some time for me to call back. address:
