THE HIGH NOTE By Austin Harbaugh

MISSION STATEMENT The high note will supply musicians of all skill level and ability’s with quality instruments and instrument repair. With a big music library that you will be able to find over thousands of sheet music. Our dedicated employees will be able to answer all the questions that you would have and give advice of what they think is best for you. My business will be there to help the schools in the community anyway we can.

INTRODUCTION  The high note music store will be a music store that supply’s music instruments of all kinds and sheet music for the people in the area and schools. Also will help the community that the store is in.  The skills that I bring is that in have been around music instruments for over 7 years now.  The store will have lots of employees that will have lots of experience in all types of music instruments and be willing to help anyone with anything they need.

INTRODUCTION  The goals are that I will supply quality instruments and music to the public with support of the city. Also to grow into a big company with multiple locations in the future.  Also I will hold concerts showcasing the instruments and different music that I will have in my store.

INTRODUCTION  The reason that I picked to do a music store is because I have been in band for a big chunk of my life.  Also because it is the one of the things that I love to do I love to play my instruments and that it is the store that I know the most in.

RESEARCH  Some of the research that I did I looked at other music stores in the area and around the area.  I also went to some of them and look and asked them questions about there business  The research that I had to do on the computer to get the right information of what I needed.

MARKETING/ PRODUCTS AND SERVICES  The services that the high note will have available are a repair shop in the store. The business will also have a membership program so when people buy merchandise from the store they can get deals and free merchandise.  Here are some of the instruments that I will have in my store, Saxophones, Trumpets, Trombones, Clarinets, and Flutes

MARKETING/ MARKET  The customers that I plan to target are kids just starting out learning how to play an instrument. Also people that are looking for better quality instruments and teens that want to buy a guitar for a band or for fun.  I will be at the start primarily a jazz and concert band store until I can get into the other markets.  Also I plan to have some more expensive instruments in the store to get people to come in also to get out to the competitions so that people will know where the High Note is located.

MARKETING/ INDUSTRY  In 2001 the U.S. Census Bureau reported that there was over 4,358 different instrument shops in the United States and employed over 34,142 people.  But then the industry fell because of the economic fall and a lot of stores had to be closed because of people not buying instruments.  But in the recant years the instrument retail industry has been coming back fast because of the new technology and people having money to buy instruments

MARKETING/ LOCATION  The location that I have picked is in Hillsboro the address is 2797 SE Tualatin Valley Hwy, Hillsboro, OR  This will give me enough space to put in everything I need for a small repair shop and practice room and a show room.  Also it is not just close to Hillsboro but near Beaverton and aloha that will bring in more business from those cities.

SWOT ANALYSIS/ STRENGTHS  Some of the advantages that I have over my competition is that I have a very fresh on what stuff kids will buy and rent from my store.  Also I know all of the other stores flaws that I have saw and can make better

SWOT ANALYSIS/ WEAKNESSES  Some of the weaknesses that I have are sometimes I get really nervous when I am talking to big groups of people and this might hurt my business if we have a show of or I am trying to promote my business.  I am bad at getting stuff done early I will wait till the last minute to get something done and this could and will hurt my business

SWOT ANALYSIS/ OPPORTUNITIES  The location of my business will be on a busy road and a lot of people will be able to see it and That the people that I hire will tell their friends and they will be able to get more people to come to the store also so that my store gets out to even more people.  Also I will have all the people and equipment that people will not have to go far to get good service

SWOT ANALYSIS/ THREATS  People might still go to the bigger store with more stuff rather than the smaller store. Also the years that all of the stores have been there they have established a customer base that I will have to overcome to run a successful business.  Also if the advertisement that I put out will even make people come to the store and buy something and if I did enough advertisement.

CHALLENGES  Some of the challenges that I faced is finding good information that worked with what I was talking about.  Also getting the prices of the equipment that I will have in my store

WHAT I LEARNED  I learned that it takes a lot of work to open a business and you have to know a lot about the business you are opening before you can do anything.  Also that people take a huge risk with opening a music store because of how much it costs and that people might not like it.

WHAT I WOULD HAVE DONE DIFFERENTLY  The things that I would have done differently are asking music store owners more stuff than I did to get more help and information.  Also that I would looked more on the internet and found even more information that worked for me.
