Fall 2012-U19 Boy’s Soccer The Way Forward

Fall Soccer The BHS/BASC boy’s soccer players must play at a higher level in the fall in order to be competitive in the High School season. We cannot continue to take half of the High School season to adjust to the speed of play. The players from most of the RRC schools we play, ADM, DCG, Ballard play on an IPSL team in the fall. The 3A teams we face in Districts are almost entirely made up of players from Select and ODP sides. We must play a higher caliber of soccer against a higher level of competition in order to take the program to the next level.

IPSL Iowa Premier Soccer League – The Iowa Premier Soccer League is a statewide soccer league for the advanced player. Teams enter the league through their ISA affiliated clubs. A committee of Coaching Directors governs the league. The Iowa Soccer Association administers the league through a League Director. What are the divisions in the League? – The league will be structured into divisions based on skill and abilities and not necessarily by age. The league will conduct a divisional placement meeting prior to the start of all sessions. Coaching Directors are required to participate. Teams may play older teams in a higher division if their skill level warrants. Likewise teams may play down a division while developing. How many matches do we play? – Preferably matches. This is dependent on the number of teams in a division. When do we play? – The fall season may begin Mid August and complete play early November. A spring season for teams whose players are not playing High School will begin late March and end mid June. Travel matches will be played Saturday or Sunday, Sunday being the primary day. Local matches may be played on weeknights. Some Clubs that played U18 Select tier 3 in Fall ‘10: – Northwest Iowa Football Club: NFC 93/94 Blue U17B – Omaha Football Club: OFC 93/94 Elite 1 U17B – DM Menace U18B – DM Menace U17B – Eastern Iowa Soccer Association: Eastern Iowa EIU U17B Blue – Eastern Iowa Soccer Association: EIU CR Silver U17/U18B – West Des Moines Soccer Club: WDM Fire U18B – Eastern Iowa Soccer Association: EIU IC Silver A U18B – West Des Moines Soccer Club: WDM United U17B – Johnston-Urbandale Soccer Club: JUSC Premier U18B

GDMJSL The Greater Des Moines Junior Soccer League is an administrative organization for recreational soccer clubs in central Iowa. The main function of GDMJSL is to create a structure where the U11 - U19 teams from each of our 38 member clubs can play against teams from other member clubs while playing at a similar competition level. Classic Team: – Team formed to provide players with advanced skills and an expressed desire to experience a level of competition beyond that afforded by a recreational team. – The Classic Division consists of teams that use tryouts, invitations, recruiting or any like process to register players selectively to any team on the basis of talent or ability. – A classic team will be placed in the highest division of GDMJSL for their age group.

Course of Action 1 Two High School Aged Teams. – Teams will have to play in the age group of the oldest player. Most likely U18. (1) U18 IPSL (Iowa Premier Select League) Team – Roster of 15/16 players (1) U18 GDSMJSL (Greater Des Moines) Classic Team – Max roster 18 players

Commitment – 2 (1.5 hour) practices a week. – 1 Game a week. Can be on Saturday or Sunday. – 1 Tournament. – I will schedule all the practices prior to the start of the season. I will factor in the OHS and BHS sports schedules as much as possible. I expect you to bring a desire and intensity to practice.

Commitment This is not mandatory. Do not take anything I say here today as being a mandate that you must play fall soccer in order to play High School Soccer. I fully realize that there a multi-sport athletes on the team. I fully realize it is hard to tell the football/basketball/cross country coach no. I ask that you understand that for some of your team mates this is their “sport” and their passion. If you commit to the team and either back out down the road or bring a lack of intensity and desire to practices and games, you are letting them down. Be realistic when making your decision, but when you make the commitment to the team, I ask that you COMMIT. We are building for the future, imagine where the program will be next year, three years from now?

What’s Next? Deposit and sign-up forms are due tonight. Determine the number of players committed. Based upon those numbers we will form the teams. Teams will be announced the week of July 15.
