2011/2012 Green Mt. Title 1/Lap Welcome Parents ! MrsK (Kim) Shealy Teacher Librarian/Reading Specialist "Books are the quietest and most constant of friends: they are the most accessible and wisest of counselors, and the most patient of teachers." Charles W. Eliot

What is the Title I/LAP Program? The Title I Reading/Language Arts/Math program is designed to give extra support in one or more subjects to students who may need additional time and instruction to attain the necessary skill levels in reading and/or math to be successful in school and to meet our state’s “common core” standards currently assessed with the Washington State MSP. In grades 2-8, the LAP math program provides funding to help students who have not passed (Levels 2 or 1) of the WAMSP. Further evaluations will determine which “areas of concern” will be outlined as your students’ “targeted” learning goals for each trimester. Your student will be given direct instruction with the adopted enVision Focus program.

How was student placement determined? Reading: ITBS and/or WAMSP test scores San Diego Quick: Leveled sight word list Rewards Multi-Syllable placement assessment Scott-Foresman IRI: Individual reading inventory DIBELS: Individual indicators of basic early literacy skills AIMsweb assessments

Assessment Indicators Continued…… Math: WAMSP test scores Beginning year math assessment indicators from classroom Teachers AIMsweb trimester assessments

What student services will be provided? LAP Math Targeted Instruction GMT LAP math is an intensive accelerated learning program designed in meeting your students’ need while utilizing an intervention program at or below grade level. The Focus math program provides 3 sets of targeted learning skills at each grade level. Your student will be given pre-post targeted assessments to ensure grade level targets have been learned. The Focus math program provides below grade level intensive interventions that will benefit student learning targets outlined by the AIMsweb assessment tool.

How can you help your student at home? 1. Contact Mrs K with any and all questions or concerns. I am here to provide service to you, as well as your student. 2.If you have internet access from home: Check often with the Title 1 blog site for announcements. Please remember that the same supplemental practice links can be accessed from your home computer at any time. So during those down times, encourage your student to get online and practice: Green Mt. Helping your student to succeed… continued.. Our Title I/LAP programs encourage families to be involved in their child's education. Research shows that academic achievement improves significantly when parents are involved in school and at home. Families are invited to be involved in the following ways: 1.Attend Parent/Teacher Conferences 2.Assist your child with schoolwork at home 3.Participate in school and district parent events 4.Volunteer in your child's classroom or school 5.Engage your child in conversation about what they are learning 6.Read to and with your child 7.Communicate with your child's teacher, Title I/LAP teacher and school staff when you have questions or concerns.
