5 What is Title I? Title I is a federally funded program which allows students, who are experiencing academic difficulty, to receive extra help and individual attention during the school day with no extra cost to the parents.

How is Title I funded? The federal government provides funding to low- income school districts each year. School districts identify schools that are eligible to receive funds. Title I funds are used to provide the school with a certified Reading Specialist, purchase materials and supplies, provide parent involvement opportunities, and professional development for teachers. 6/6/2016 6

How did Bryant Elementary become a Title I school? The federal funding for Title I is based on the free and reduced lunch program within the school. However, students are not required to be on free or reduced lunch programs to be eligible for Title I services. 6/6/2016 7

Title I works to: Identify students most in need of educational help Set goals for improvement Measure student progress Develop programs that add to regular classroom instruction; including small group intervention and Test Prep. Involve parents in all aspects of the program. 6/6/2016 8

How are students selected for Title I? All students within the school are given multiple assessments throughout the school year. Their scores on these assessments determine their needs. 6/6/2016 9

When will my student attend Title I classes? We will provide added instruction for children based on their needs. The duration and frequency will be determined on their specific need. They will not miss any core classroom instruction time. 6/6/2016 10

Schoolwide Program: Schools can qualify for Schoolwide Title I programs where the funds and resources can benefit all students attending that school. Often, in these schools, the Title I teacher works with the regular education teacher to provide intervention for students as the need arises. Bryant’s Title I Program is a Schoolwide Program – this means ALL of our students are considered Title I students. 6/6/2016 11

What else does Title I do? Title I purchases resources and equipment and sends teachers to workshops to better serve the students of Bryant.
