Homework-Yeah!!!! Complete HALF of the image from the handout. Due NEXT LESSON

What is Tone? Definition: In art, tone refers to the degree of lightness or darkness of an area. Tone varies from the bright white of a light source through shades of gray to the deepest black shadows.

How we perceive the tone of an object depends on its actual surface lightness or darkness, color and texture, the background and lighting. Tone is may be used broadly ('global tone') to denote the major planes of an object; realist artists use 'local tone' to accurately denote subtle changes within the plane.

Tones in Art Look very carefully at the images which follow on the next slides. They are both in lack and white. Look at the tonal range Can you see where the light shines on the subject, their faces, clothing? How important is it in art to show the various tones? For 5 merits who can name what varying tone adds to image

The winner is…. It makes an object look more three dimensional, so therefore more lifelike.
