2. An element of design. A mark on a surface that describes a shape or outline.

4. Line: a mark drawn with a pointed moving tool.
Vertical – up and down line
Horizontal – side to side line
Diagonal – slanted line
Curved – rounded and graceful
ZigZag- lines that go back and forth.

5. Implied Line
A series of points that the viewers eyes automatically connect.

6. Contour Drawings
A line that shows or creates the outline of a shape, including the folds and patterns.

7. Blind Contour Drawings
Blind Contour drawings are contour drawings that are created without looking at the paper while you draw.

20. What is value? Value in art is the lightness or darkness of something.
A value scale shows a full range of values from the lightest white to the darkest black, and all the grays in between.

24. Highlight: Where the light source directly hits the object
Highlight: Where the light source directly hits the object. The lightest part.
Light Source
Cast Shadow: The shadow cast by the object onto the surface it is sitting on. This is always on the OPPOSITE side of the light source. Usually the darkest values.
Reflected Light: Where the light source hits the surface the object is sitting on and reflects back up onto the object.
Graded Value: The transitional values from the highlight to the darkest side of the object.

Using a variety of techniques, artists can make it look like an image has foreground, middleground and background.
