Key Stage 2 SATs  Dates: –The week commencing the 9 th of May  Papers –Reading –Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling –Mathematics –Science – if the school is selected  Attendance this week is essential  No holidays!

Holidays and Absences  Holidays during term time  Absences  Attendance is important  Belinda will be working with families and Attendance is one of the areas she will be working on

Curriculum  Literacy –Lessons will include: Our text is ‘The Journey to the River Sea’ as the children should have read it over the summer period and is a fiction book to develop the children’s understanding of fiction writing structures. –The children will be writing stories, lots of speaking and listening through drama and making presentations, autobiographies and biographies.

Curriculum  Mathematics –We shall cover:  Counting, partitioning and calculating using +, -, x and ÷  Problem solving  Explaining reasoning and conclusions  Number facts  Geometry  Measures  Statistics  Recording solutions in a variety of ways  Children must know their times tables to 12 x 12 please help.

Curriculum  Foundation / Core Subjects –Science: Light and animals and their habitats. –Computing: Starz , e-safety, word processing and using websites for research –PE: Swimming, Dance and Hockey –RE: Peoples values and how they affect the world. –P.H.S.E.: Bodily changes and how to take care of yourself.

Curriculum –History: World War II –Geography: Map work- physcial and human geography –French: Restaurant orders and introducing family members –Music: Exploring sounds and sound sources –Art: Drawing inspired by war artists –D&T: Sewing with fabrics –Subjects may be taught in ‘blocks’ –Specific curriculum days/afternoons

Curriculum  Reading Home: –Essential that children read regularly at home – aloud and on their own –Ask questions about the text  Literal: child locates answer in the text  Inference/deduction: child has to look for clues in the text and interpret them  Evaluative: child has to use text and add knowledge/experience to answer –Read a range of materials

Curriculum  Reading School: –Guided reading sessions –Some 1:1 reading –Accelerated reader –Books:  Guided choice  Free choice

What we would like parents and carers to do Communicate with us – We are outside on the playground everyday except Wednesday when it is stay and read.  celebrations,  changes to routines,  concerns,  homework,  reading,  what you and your child think about the school,  stay and read sessions It is vital for the communication between school and home to be strong for your children to get the best out of the experience. We want all children to be happy and enjoy their school experience so please help us by communicating with us. Go on the school website!

Homework  Literacy, Mathematics and Reading  Set on Fridays, return by Wednesday  Spellings given out on a Monday tested the following Monday  No homework given –on week before/returning from a holiday –during a parent’s consultation week –if your child is absent.  Inform teacher if support has been given with homework  Reading books changed on Thursday and Friday- they need to be changed every week. Make sure you record the books that they read at home.

How to help your child with Literacy and Mathematics  Talk to your child about what they have been learning  Encourage children to find things out for themselves  Create a ‘reading friendly’ house  Listen to your child. It is really important for the children to speak correctly to become confident writers and spellers. Please try to practise this with your children at home and correct them  Encourage children to ask questions. Work together to find the answer  Encourage your child to complete their homework  Learn spelling and times tables  Use the computer programmes they can access at home to support their learning – mathletics, BBC skillswise,
