1 Welcome to the Year Six Coffee Morning St. John’s Catholic Primary School

2 In Year 6 you will find….   Mrs Ward   Mrs Burtonwood   Mrs Donnelly (Thursday am)   Mrs Hodgson (Wed pm, Fri am) Any concerns or worries, please do not hesitate to come and see any of us.

3 In Year 6 we will continue to promote….   Independence and taking responsibility. All the children have been given class and school jobs and are encouraged to work independently.

4 Homework Diaries Homework will include Reading, Times Tables, learning Spellings for a test on Fridays, optional research tasks, projects, as well as Time to Talk Homework and a worksheet on a Friday. Please check Homework diaries and sign weekly

5 TALK HOMEWORK

6 Learning Logs Topic Based Recount Based (i.e. Holidays). Event Based (Stories in the media).

7 Literacy  Reading books and reading in school.  Comprehension work.  Grammar (SPAG)  Speaking and Listening.  Spellings.  Shared reading and writing.  Big write – Talk for writing.

10 Spellings.... Spelling challenges will be set on a Tuesday in class, based on the words given and words will be set to learn for a spelling test the following week. These will be put on the website as well as marked in your child’s spelling booklet.

11 Handwriting  In Year 6, your child will continue to develop their cursive handwriting style.  They will use cursive handwriting in all their written work.  Additional handwriting work will be given to children who need it.

12 Numeracy  Place Value  Times Tables  Mental mathematics  Problem solving activities  Practical tasks  Supported tasks  Independent tasks By Year 6 all children should be confident with the days of the week, months of the year and telling the time.

13 Curriculum Overview Topic based.....  Religious Education.  Science  Geography & History  PE  Computing  Art  Design & Technology  Music  French  PHSE

14 Class Talks  Talks can be about anything that the children are interested in.  They should last roughly five minutes.  Please help with any research but try not to come up with a ‘script’.  Unfortunately due to computer virus’ in school we are unable to allow children to transfer work using a USB pen. 15 Remember  Reading books and reading records.  Homework Diaries.  Water bottles.  Trainers and P.E. kits including joggers for Mondays & Tuesdays.  I’m here to help, come and see me anytime.
