The Great Builders of Old … No civilization is so identified with constructing and building things than the Romans. Aqueducts, roads, baths, walls, theatres, temples, arches, cities, palaces... They built a world from which later peoples still benefitted for a long time to come. Some of their old roads are even still in use today. So too, some of their great amphitheatres.

The keystone is the most important stone in an arch bridge, without this stone the arch would collapse. The keystone holds the arch together.

Before an arch can be built a wooden frame is built. This allows the stones to be put in position. The frame is removed after the stones are in position.
