PROCESSES FOR THE INVOLVEMENT IN THE ARTS Standard 1

STANDARD 1 Processes for Involvement in the Arts 1.1 Creating: I can understand the process of creating art. 1.2 Performing: I can understand the process of performing art. 1.3 Responding: I can understand the process of responding to art.

THE 4 TRADITIONAL ART FORMS.  Visual Arts: Art that you can see.  Music  Drama  Dance

THERE ARE 3 DISTINCT PROCESSES FOR THE INVOLVEMENT IN THE ARTS.

CREATING… generating original work in the arts.

 Includes the expression of a student's unique ideas, feelings, and responses in the form of a visual image, a character, a written or improvised dramatic work or the composition or improvisation of a piece of music or dance.

THE PRODUCT  The actual artwork. What the artist has to show for his/her work.  The result of the creative process.

CREATING

PERFORMANCE  recreating an existing work.  This is a process that calls upon the student's interpretive skills.

PERFORMANCE

RESPONDING  RESPONDING refers to the interaction between a student and a particular composition.  It is central to the creative and performing processes.  A response can be verbal or nonverbal.  It results from a judgment or evaluation based on criteria established by an individual, a group, or culture.

RESPONDING

In the Visual Arts, performance may include the creation of an original work.

STANDARD 1.4 I can understand the processes of two-dimensional and three-dimensional art and of medium and tools.

Two-Dimensional- Has height and width Paintings, Drawings, Photos

Three- Dimensional- Has Height, Width and Depth; Sculpture Ceramics

Sculpture in the Round: meant to be viewed from all sides. Relief Sculpture: Projects from a background. Linear: Made from tubular items; wires, tubes. Ceramics: Items made from clay.

Medium and Tools Medium: Art material used to create the artwork…paint, pastel, pencil, clay…(plural: media) Tools: What we use to apply or otherwise manipulate the medium…paintbrush, palette, palette knife, blending stumps/tortillions.
