2 Quality Section Mastery of drawing issues that is apparent in concept, composition and execution of work 5 works – Actual work in one or more media is sent to AP Board Demonstrate mastery of drawing No larger than 18x24 and if smaller than 8x10 must be mounted to 8x10 May come from Breadth or Concentration Section but do not have to May be related or may not be related

3 Concentration Section
Related works that shows a thoughtful investigation of a specific visual idea Can use any media that addresses drawing issues Explore a personal, central interest as intensively as possible Should show growth and/or discovery Interested in work and the student’s thinking

4 Requirements of Concentration
12 images submitted some of which may be details Images are unified by and underlying idea Technique, medium, style, form, subject, and concept are made by the student Concentration Statement 1. Clearly and simply state the central idea of your concentration. 2. Explain how the work in your concentration demonstrates your intent and the exploration of your idea. You may refer to specific images as examples. 3. Writing is not scored but it provides critical information for evaluating the artwork. Therefore, they should be well written.

5 Examples of Concentrations
A series of expressive landscapes based upon personal experience of a particular place A personal or family history communicated through the content and style of still-life images Abstractions from mechanical objects that explore mark-making Interpretive self-portraiture and figure studies that emphasize exaggeration and distortion

6 Examples of Concentrations
A project that explores interior or exterior architectural space, emphasizing principle so fperspective, structure, ambiance created by light, etc. A series of figurative works combining animal and human subjects – drawings, studies, and completed works An interpretive study of literary characters in which mixed media, color and form are explored The use of multiple images to create works that reflect psychological or narrative events

7 Concentrations Details
In most cases 12 works are selected but more are produced – in general the 12 best are chosen Some works may be chosen to show the growth over time even if it is not the “best” The sequence works are submitted in should be considered. Organize images to show growth over time. DO NOT SUBMIT WORKS THAT WERE ALSO IN BREADTH SECTION!

8 Breadth Section Demonstrate understanding from a wide range of drawing concerns, for example: observation, nonobjective forms, effective use of light and shade, line quality, surface, manipulation, composition, various spatial systems and expressive mark-making Evidence of conceptual, perceptual and expressive development and skill development Variety, variety, variety

9 Breadth Requirements Must submit 12 images of 12 different works
The best breadth section demonstrations clearly show experimentation and a range of conceptual approaches Can use a single media or multiple medias Should show a range of approaches, techniques, compositions and subjects

10 Breadth Possibilities
Exploration of various spatial systems, such as linear perspective, the illusion of three-dimensional forms, aerial views and other ways of creating and organizing space Exploration of various subjects, such as the human figure, landscape, and still-life objects Exploration of various kinds of content: observation, an expressionistic viewpoint, imaginary or psychological imagary, social commentary, political statements, and other personal images

Exploration of the arrangement of forms in a complex visual space Exploration of different tools, materials, and processes to represent form and space Exploration of expressive mark-making
