This is what I have been doing: Firstly I took 17 photographs of years 3+4 children’s packed lunches. Secondly I gave 15 food dairies to year 3+5. I got seven completed ones back
I took 17 photograph of children's lunch boxes and after I did a tally chart and wrote down what they ate.
This is what I found out 76% of children had crisps in their packed lunch 76% had sandwiches 64% of children had a drink in their packed lunches I wondered if some children didn’t have a drink all day. If you don’t have a drink in your packed lunch, it is a good idea to go to the water fountain I know sometimes children might not go to the water fountain because they don’t want to be separated from their friends.
Water is good for you! It helps you to concentrate It stops you getting dehydrated
Only 35% of children had chocolate in their packed lunch. I thought this would be higher.
Food diary results I found out what seven children ate on a Saturday Most children did not have a healthy breakfast Almost all children have a sugary cereal
Did children eat 5 fruit and vegetables a day? Only 2 children had 5 or more fruit and vegetables a day I noticed lots of children have crisps. 5 out of 7 children have crisps during the day. A lot of children had crisps in their packed lunches too.
Conclusions Children could eat healthier snacks. Instead of crisps they could have a healthy snack, such as a juicy apple or a sweet banana. I think children should think about when they are older. They need to remember that what they eat now will affect them in the future.
