How does colleges use my ACT results?  Admissions decisions ACT test results, high school grades, academic preparation, out-of- class accomplishments, and future plans—these and other kinds of information help admissions officials identify applicants who can benefit most from their programs.  Course placement Colleges usually try to take into account individual strengths and weaknesses as they place students in first-year courses. For example, a college may offer three sections of a subject—developmental, regular, and advanced. A student's ACT test results, academic background, and high school grades might be used to determine which section would be most appropriate.

 Academic advising College academic advisors may consider ACT results, high school academic program, high school grades, planned extracurricular activities, areas in which there is a need for assistance, and part-time employment plans to tailor an appropriate program of study to a student.  Scholarships and loans Some scholarship and loan agencies may use ACT test results with other information such as high school grades to identify qualified candidates. However, the agencies may not look at academic potential alone. The ACT score report provides information about a student's educational needs, extracurricular achievements, and educational plans. This information, along with high school grades and test scores, helps the agencies evaluate applications for scholarships, loans, and other financial assistance.

ACT Test Prep Resources  A free student preparation booklet available from most high schools and colleges—includes test information, complete practice tests with scoring keys, and a writing prompt. Students may also find these booklets in the counselors office.  This ACT Companion provides personal tutoring, with immediate feedback on every incorrect answer. It automatically adapts to your personal skill level and can even remind you via of what's best to study next!  To use their ACT practice exams, simply do a quiz from the section of the ACT on which you want to focus: ACT English, ACT Math, ACT Reading or ACT Science. After you complete one of the practice tests, the questions you missed will come up and you can click them for the correct answer and a video to show you how to think through the problem correctly.

APCS ACT Remediation  Every Thursday in room E7  Mrs. Roberts and I have paired to provide quality ACT preparation  We will alternate Thursdays, where I will prepare students for reading and English while Mrs. Roberts will lead the math and science sessions.  Students will take practice tests that will be analyzed to diagnose their specific learning needs. Those needs will be addressed in the remediation sessions.

 Statistically, students who take preparation courses and practice are more successful than those who do not on the ACT  This is a free course to students compliments of APCS. Similar courses would cost upwards of $500-$1000 per class.  We encourage all 11 th and 12 th grade students to attend.  Chad Cargill ACT preparation and practice books are available for checkout in my room (E7). This is another free resource APCS wants to provide your student with to help them be successful on the ACT. These books can cost around $50 in most stores.
