There are 3 simple tenses: Regular Irregular PRESENT TALK RING SPELL TEACH b. PAST TALKED RANG SPELLED TAUGHT c. FUTURE WILL TALK WILL RING WILL SPELL WILL TEACH

5. REGULAR verbs do NOT change their original SPELLING in any tense. 6. IRREGULAR verbs DO CHANGE their spelling in SOME tenses.

7. PERFECT tense verbs deal with some ACTION that has happened (or will have happened) in the PAST. 8. The PERFECT tenses ALWAYS use the PAST participle plus the words HAS, HAVE, and HAD.

EXAMPLES: Present Perfect Past Perfect Future Perfect HAVE DRUNK HAD DRUNK WILL HAVE DRUNK HAS EATEN HAD EATEN WILL HAVE EATEN HAS SWUM HAD SWUM WILL HAVE SWUM

9. PROGRESSIVE tense verbs deal with some action that IS HAPPENING. 10. The PROGRESSIVE tenses ALWAYS use the PRESENT PARTICIPLE plus the words AM, IS, ARE, WAS, and WERE (“be” verbs).

EXAMPLES: Present Progressive Past Progressive Future Progressive AM DRINKING WAS DRINKING WILL BE DRINKING IS EATING WERE EATING WILL BE EATING ARE SWIMMING WAS SWIMMING WILL BE SWIMMING
