Spanish traditional games

Grab the flag Aim: to take the handkerchief before the other person and run away without being touched or, in case the other has taken the handkerchief, chase the opponent and touch him/her. Place: outside Number of participants: at least 8 Age: + 4 Material: a handkerchief (or similar) Procedure and rules: Two teams of at least 4 players each are required. One team has to be in front of the other with a gap of at least 6 meters between the teams. In the middle of the teams the “judge” stands with the handkerchief waiting for one of the members of each team to come forward. Each person on the teams has got a random number (as many numbers as people in each team) and they wait behind the lines at the same distant from the judge until he or she shouts one number. When the judge shouts the number the person of each team with this number runs to the handkerchief but they cannot cross the judge line until he or his opponent has taken the handkerchief. Once one of them takes the handkerchief s/he has to run and arrive where her/his team is without being touched. If s/he gets back to his/her team the person from the other team is out of the game. On the other hand if s/he is touched by his opponent s/he will be out of the game. When one team has got more players than the other the people from the team with less players will have more than one number so every time the judge shouts a number one player from each team can go for the handkerchief. When one team has no more players the game is over.

The line Aim: to throw a pebble trying to put it as close as possible to the line. Place: outside Number of participants: at least 2 Age: + 3 Material: a pebble (or similar) Procedure and rules: The line is made at a 4 meters distance from where the participants are. Each person has got a pebble and they have to throw it to the line in turns trying to put it as close as possible to the line. If one person throws the pebble so far that s/he passes the line s/he will be out of the game. The person who put´s her/his pebble the closest to the line is the winner.

Bottly - bottle Aim: to find the people who have been hidden avoiding the rest to touch the can. Place: outside Number of participants: at least 4 Age: + 4 Material: a can, a plastic bottle or similar Procedure and rules: One is in charge of the bottle. While s/he is counting with the bottle on the ground the other people hide. Once s/he finishes counting s/he leaves the bottle on the ground and goes to try and find the others. When s/he finds someone s/he has to go back to the bottle and say: “bottly bottle for (Silvia)” and so on till everybody is found. If one person runs to the bottle and kicks it saying: “for me and for my friends we all are saved” everyone who has been caught is freed and is able to run and hide again. When all the people are found the first person who has been “discovered” takes the bottle and starts counting so the game starts again.
