PETANCA: A SPANISH TRADITIONAL SPORT C.R.A. LENA JUNE 2014

THE TEAMS There cannot be more than 12 balls in the pitch which is made of raked loose sand to stop the balls from rolling -3 players vs 3 players: Each player throws two balls 2 players vs 2 players: Each player throws three balls 1 player vs 1 player : Each player throws three balls

CHARACTERISTICS OF THE BALLS

CHARACTERISTICS OF THE SMALL BALL (BOLICHE) The small balls can be made of wood or synthetic material Diametre  : 3 cm +/- 1 mm

HOW TO PLAY First we choose the team which starts playing. One player of that team chooses where to start the game and he/she stands inside a circle. This player must be inside this circle all the time before the ball touches the ground. This player throws the “boliche” between 6 and 7 metres. This “boliche” musn’t be less than a metre from any obstacle (a wall, a tree…) Then the player throws his first ball trying to place it the closest to the “boliche”.

A player from the other team stands in the circle, throws their first ball and tries to place that ball closer to the “boliche” than their opponents’ ball. The ball which is closer to the “boliche” is leading the game. The next turn is for the team which is losing the game until they are leading or have thrown all their balls.

When one of the teams does not have any balls left, the players of the other team play with all the balls they have, trying to put themselves as close as possible to the “boliche”. When both teams do not have any balls left, they have to calculate the points. You get a point if your ball is one of the closest to the boliche. This is the end of this round. Then one of the players of the winning team throws the “boliche” from the same place where the “boliche” was the last round, and this is the start of the second round. The game continues until one of the teams scores 13 points.
