Great Horned Owl By Ryan

Description Coloring: Size: Physical Characteristics: Source #__1_______ The Great Horned owl has a brown and white body. It has black tufts and a black outline. Their eyes are yellow. The Great Horned owl is up to 18 to 25 inches tall. That is the size of a big dog. Great Horned Owls use tufts to talk to other owls. When owls are mad, they raise their ear tufts to warn the other owl that shouldn’t be here. When they lower their ear tufts that means they are happy.

Adaptations Physical Behavioral Source #_11, 14, 18_______ Owls can see in the night because of their great eyesight. Their eyes have three sets of eyelids. With their feathers they can blend in with their surroundings. Owls have four toes, three in the front and one in the back. They have a reversible outer toe. They have great hearing even though their ears are hidden in feathers. Owls have soft tips on their wings so they can glide softly in the night and surprise their prey. They use their beak to rip flesh out of their prey. Sometimes owl hide food from other creatures which is called caching (cashing). Owls have a hunting technique called perch and pounce. Owls are raptors which means they eat meat. You can tell by the owls eyes if they are diaurnal or nocturnal because if they are light, they hunt in the daytime and if they are dark then they hunt in the daytime.

Habitat Source #___16______ South America AsiaEurope Africa Australia Atlantic Ocean Indian Ocean Pacific Ocean Arctic Ocean Antarctica North America Their habitat is located In North America.
