IEEE MEDIA INDEPENDENT HANDOVER DCN: Title: Comments Date Submitted: Jan, 06, 2006 Presented at IEEE session #12 in Hawaii Authors or Source(s): Jiang Bingqiang, Zhuang hongcheng Abstract: This document proposes an amendment for event register. MIH users can take more appropriate actions according to the failure reasons when event register fails.

Event_Register_ Amend.ppt During the register process, it is possible that some events couldn’t be registered correctly, but there are no primitives or methods to notify MIH user about the failure reasons in the current draft standard. For example, link event register maybe fail because of disappearance of the event source or other reasons Network_select.doc In the current draft standard, terminals and networks all can initiate a handover. In IEEE802.16, Terminal can decide to select own suitable network which may be different from one that the current network suggests. So should supply a way by which terminals and networks all can select a suitable network for the handover.

xxxx Resource_Reserve.ppt In the current draft, upper layers may utilize services provided by the MIH Function across different entities to reserve resources required for a handover operation between heterogeneous networks, but none of the MIH services can offer indication to upper layer to immediately withdraw the reserved resources in target APs not selected by the terminal, thus it leads to wasting resources Event_Report.ppt Devices such as hot-plugged interfaces or an external module may cause the list of supported link layer events to change in any time. Sometimes, it is very important to send the changed message to high layer automatically in time for deciding to initiate handover in real-time scenario.
