IEEE 802.21 MEDIA INDEPENDENT HANDOVER DCN: 21-10-0097-00-bcst Title: Overview of Draft P802.21b/D0.01 Date Submitted: May 11, 2010 Presented at IEEE 802.21 session #38 in Bangalore, India Authors or Source(s): Hongseok Jeon (ETRI) Abstract: This document summarizes the current IEEE 802.21b Task Group Draft (Draft P802.21b/D0.01). 121-10-0097-00-bcst

Background Document “21-10-0046-00, 802.21b Joint Proposal” was presented in 21b March meeting. The document was accepted as the 802.21b TG draft. Technical editor has converted the document into the official IEEE format. Draft P802.21b/D0.01 is released in May. 21-10-0097-00-bcst3

MIH_Net_Bcst_HO_Commit (1/2) P802.21b/D0.01 defines an additional MIH_SAP Primitive, MIH_Net_Bcst_HO_Commit. MIH_Net_Bcst_HO_Commit is issued by upper layer entities to perform network-controlled handover or network-assisted handover. There are two primitives for MIH_Net_Bcst_HO_Commit. MIH_Net_Bcst_HO_Commit.request: This primitive is used by MIH users on a DO network to inform the remote MIH users on the specific group of MNs of a possible handover to bidirectional networks. MIH_Net_Bcst_HO_Commit.indication: This primitive is used by MIH users on the MNs to perform a network-controlled handover or network- assisted handover. This primitive is the result of receipt of an MIH_Net_Bcst_HO_Commit indication message from a remote MIHF. 21-10-0097-00-bcst5

MIH_Net_Bcst_HO_Commit (2/2) Parameters of MIH_Net_Bcst_HO_Commit They are based on parameters of MIH_Net_HO_Commit. An additional parameter is “TargetMNGroupInfo” that describes service or program information to identify the group of target mobile nodes which the DO networks recommend a handover. 21-10-0097-00-bcst6

Change of 8.3.1 MIHF ID P802.21b/D0.01 changed the last paragraph of 8.3.1 so that multicast MIHF ID can be utilized several MIH messages as well as MIH_Capability_Discovery_Req. P802.21b/D0.01 allows the multicast MIHF ID to be used with following MIH messages. MIH Messages for Management Service MIH_Capability_Discover Request MIH Messages for Command Service MIH_Link_Get_Parameters_Request MIH_Link_Configure_Thresholds_Request MIH_Net_Bcst_HO_Commit Indication MIH Messages for Information Service MIH_Push_Information_Indication 21-10-0097-00-bcst8

MIH_Net_Bcst_HO_Commit indication message P802.21b/D0.01 defines an additional MIH protocol message, MIH_Net_Bcst_HO_Commit indication. This message is used by the MIHF on the DO network to recommend a possible handover to a specific link and PoA. The requesting MIHF entity fills its destination MIHF ID with a multicast MIHF ID to send this message. 21-10-0097-00-bcst10

Additional Data Types (1/3) P802.21b/D0.01 defines additional data types for service identification, cast capability, and group identification. Data type for service identification In 21b use case, when some program or service will be no longer available on DO networks, DO networks recommend a handover to MNs watching the same program or service. This data type represents the URI of program or service that will be no longer available on DO networks. 21-10-0097-00-bcst12

Additional Data Types (2/3) Data type for link cast type 21-10-0097-00-bcst13

Additional Data Types (3/3) Data type for group information In 21b use case, when some program or service will be no longer available on DO networks, DO networks recommend a handover to a specific group of MNs watching the same program or service. This data type represents target MN group to be handed over from DO network to Bi-directional network. 21-10-0097-00-bcst14

Conclusions You can get the draft in the 802.21member only area (http://www.ieee802.org/21/private/) Current draft designation is P802.21b/D0.01. It indicates that the draft is a very initial state. The draft needs more feedback, comments and contribution. 21-10-0097-00-bcst15
