What does company research entail?

Learning as much as possible about a company/employer by visiting websites, reading promotional materials and annual reports, talking to current employees, etc.

Why is this important?

Company research can be of assistance when planning or changing careers. Helpful when scoping out potential employers and deciding where to apply. Important when customizing a resume/cover letter and preparing for an interview by matching knowledge, skills, and experience to an organization's needs.

What kind of information to look for:

Company history Location Mission and values Work environment Organizational structure and key players (CEO, directors, managers, etc.) Products and services offered Target markets Strategic direction/future goals Partners/competitors Recent news
