Warm Up: Goals and Objectives **Answer in complete sentences. 1.List at least three goals you would like to accomplish during your high school years Why did you choose these three goals?

Setting Goals and Objectives Objective: To help students develop the skill of writing quantitative goals and objectives related to their future plans.

In the Beginning Our goal was to answer three questions: – Who am I? – What do I want? – How do I get it?

Setting Goals and Objectives Think of goals and objectives as a kind of recipe for getting what you want. – Goal: The end product you want to achieve with a certain amount of time. (ie: Making cookies) – Objective: The ingredients and methods you use for your goal. Objectives are measureable. It is an action that will help you meet your goal and measure your success.

Efforts and courage are not enough without purpose and direction. John F. Kennedy Textbook page 144. Read about Marta. Textbook page 187 Continue reading about Marta Activity 186

Setting Goals and Objectives The more specific your goals and adjectives, the more helpful they will be. A goal is a statement that specifies what you want to achieve or do within a certain amount of time. An objective is an action that will help you meet your goal….and measure your success, by how much or how many, and by when.

Setting Goals: Activity 189 Look at the examples at the top of Activity 189. Practice: Activity 189: Choose 2 goals from the list and write three objectives for each.

Relationship  Do you want to be married?  What kinds of people would you like to be your friends? Components of Lifestyle Activity 190 Remember Activity 63? Work  What is your mission in life?  What are your commitments to making your goal succeed? Personal  Recreation? Health? Needs to complete projects, hobbies, clubs? Material Items  Where do you want to live?  What is your income level?  What possessions do you want?

Setting Goals: Activity 190 Activity 190: Re-turn to Activity 63 and review the statements about your desired lifestyle. Identify your 3 lifestyle goals and list 3 objectives to get to those goals. (ie: Relationships, Work, Personal, Material Items)

Always be Ready for Change! New beliefs/Values New Dreams New Goals Growth or Change New goals as we grow. As our values change, our goals change. Reaching new goals leads to recognizing new values, and so on.

Career Portfolio Goals Essay What to consider when preparing the Goals Essay Long Term Goals (5+ years from now) Short Term Goals (now up to 3 years) Lifestyle Goals (refer to Activity 63) Setting up the Essay Follow the 5 paragraph format. Introductory Paragraph Include the topic worded into a thesis (I.E. When planning my life journey I have found that setting goals assist me in making successful decisions.) Next you should mention the three main supportive points you will use to explain your thesis (I.E. When considering my goals of life, I have set specific long term, short term and personal goals in life.) Body Paragraph #1 Discuss your long term goal. Be specific as to what the goal is and your 3 objectives to how you plan to achieve it. Body Paragraph #2 Discuss your short term goal. Be specific as to what the goal is and your 3 objectives to how you plan to achieve them. Body Paragraph #3 Discuss your 3 lifestyle goals. Be specific in defining them and explaining your objectives to how you hope to achieve these goals. Concluding Paragraph Review your thesis statement and the three areas/topics you discussed within the essay. Close with a statement about how these goals allow the reader to understand more about you.

This paragraph you will need to be specific as to what your long term goal is and how you plan to achieve it. You will explain the objectives you will use within a certain amount of time to achieve them. For example: “To learn a foreign language and speak it fluently by graduation so that I can apply for a college exchange program.” Third paragraph you will discuss your short term goal. Again you will need to be specific as to what the goal is and how you plan to achieve it. Please list and explain in detail the three objectives you will take to meet those goals.
