There are 3 Kinds of Sentences Today we are going to talk about three kinds of sentences This will help you learn where to use commas and semicolons in your sentences!

There are 3 Kinds of Sentences Simple Sentences Compound Sentences and Complex Sentences

There are 3 Kinds of Sentences First you need to know that groups of words used to make sentences are called phrases or clauses … I didn’t say Santa Claus this is a very different kind of clause

Why would a sentence be called an independent clause? What does the word independent mean?

Independent Clause a complete SENTENCE An Independent Clause is a group of words that can stand alone - a complete SENTENCE! Josey eats a lot of ice cream!

Josey eats ice cream, but John eats cookies. Josey eats ice cream. John eats cookies.

When you combine two sentences (independent clauses) you MUST use either… OR

Do you remember what conjunctions are? F – For A – And N – Nor B – But O – Or Y – Yet S – So Here’s a great way to remember!

After we studied for the test. Is this a sentence (an independent clause)? No, because it isn’t a complete thought… this is a Dependent Clause

What does dependent mean? After we studied for the test… What is missing?
