3 Basic Types of Windows 1.Sliding 2.Swinging 3.Fixed The style of the house often dictates which kind to use

1- Sliding windows Double hung:- slides vertically up & down Horizontal sliding:- slides horizontally.

2. Swinging windows Casement- swings outward Awning- hinged at top; springs outward, protects from rain. Hopper- hinged at bottom; swings inward. Jalousie- horizontal adjustable glass slats fastened into a metal frame. Used where ventilation is needed.

3. Fixed windows Fixed window: admit light plus provide view, don’t open- fixed!!! 4. Combination windows Fixed windows used with other types of windows.

5. Bay windows Bay windows: A large window or series of windows projecting from the outer wall of a building and forming a recess within.

6. Skylights/ Clerestory windows Both used to let light into areas that get little or no natural light. Skylights- in ceiling or roof- usually square or rectangular Clerestory- clerestory refers to any high windows above eye level. In either case, the purpose is to bring outside light, fresh air, or both into the inner space.
