2 Double Hung Double hung windows open both from the top and the bottom. Right now, double-hung windows are very popular as they offer sophistication as well as practicality.

3 Horizontal sliding Horizontal sliding windows have an operating sash. The operating sash slides from side to side to open and close.

4 Casement A window frame hinged on one side so that it swings out or in to open

5 Awning Opens out from the bottom

6 Hopper The hopper is hinged at the bottom and opens inward to about 45 degrees, with screens on the outside. Normal found in basements.

7 Jalousie glass louvers that overlap one another. Operated with a crank or turn-screw, the glass louvers tilt to open, permitting air flow. Besides the fact that they do not obstruct the view, their biggest advantage is they allow ventilation.

8 Bay Bay windows are specially designed windows which create a niche in a home filled with light.

9 Bow A Bow window is a lovely way to open any room and capture a view.

10 Horizontal blinds Horizontal blinds are a type of window treatments that makes it possible to allow light into the room when desired as well as providing privacy when needed. They run right to left.

11 Mini blinds Slats are curved aluminum and available in 1/2", 1", and 2" sizes. Aluminum blinds are one of the most affordable horizontal blind options.

12 Vertical blinds Blinds that run up and down. Normally used for sliding glass doors.

13 Interior shutters Window treatments that open and close easily.

14 Cornice A cornice is simply a window treatment that is installed onto a lined wooden board. Cornices generally feature padded and upholstered sections.

15 Draperies A curtain that is a piece of cloth intended to block or obscure light. Found more in formal rooms such as dining or living rooms.

16 Café Curtain A window treatment that only blocks half of the window. Found in kitchens.

17 Tieback curtain Curtains that can be tied back to allow light into the room.

18 Swags and jabots A form of window treatment that is more formal than any other window treatments.

19 Valances A window treatment that is found usually in the kitchen and bathrooms.

20 Balloon shade Fabric shade which creates a gathered bottom edge when raised

21 Roller shade UpFlat panel of fabric or vinyl attached to a dowel with a roller spring mechanism for lifting.

22 Roman Shade a tailored, fabric window shade that hangs as a flat panel and is raised by cords to fold accordion-style
