T HE A UTHOR, T HE I LLUSTRATOR, AND H OW M ANY P AGES ARE I N THE B OOK The author is Rick Riordan. He lives in San Antonio, Texas with his wife & 2 sons. He is also the author of Percy Jackson and the Olympians book 2 The Sea Of Monsters and novels for the popular Tres Navarre series(an adult series). The book has a lot of pages, but is worth reading them. It has 375pages, 22 chapters. The cover design is by Christine Kettner and cover illustrator is John Rocco.

P ERCY J ACKSON Percy Jackson is a mischievous boy. He gets bad grades and once he called one of his teachers an ’old sot’! He hated Nancy Bobofit because she gets him in trouble a lot. But, some luck came because he met Grover, his best buddy. He has not seen his mother in 6 months! When he was told that he was the son of Poseidon, Percy said, ” Why did you not tell me?”

M AIN C HARACTERS Some of the main characters are Annabeth, Percy’s mom, and Grover. Annabeth ran away from home when she was 7. She met Grover along the way so Grover led her to Camp Half-Blood. She stayed there for about 5 years before Percy came. Percy’s mom met Poseidon on a beach. She loved him a lot but, one day when Poseidon went out to sea, he never came back. So, Percy’s mom, Sally had to work at a candy shop and marry smelly Gabe. Grover is a satyr(half man half goat) and Percy’s best and only friend. He usually gets teased or pelted with sandwiches by Nancy Bobofit.

S ETTING ( S ) The Lightning Thief has many settings. The settings are Yancy Academy, Museum, the Las Vegas hotel, the underworld, Las Vegas, New York, the Empire State building, Camp Half-Blood, and Percy’s house. Most of the settings are big. In the Empire State building is really big. Percy had to go to the 600 th floor to see his dad & uncle! The Museum is where Percy got attacked by Mrs. Dodds. Yancy Academy is Percy’s school. The Las Vegas hotel is where Percy and his friends stayed in Las Vegas. The Underworld is where Annabeth got a new friend and Percy & his friends see Hades. Camp Half-Blood is where Percy stays and makes a new friend, Annabeth. Percy’s house is where his mom lives and Smelly Gabe lives.

P ROBLEM OR C ONFLICT The problem is that Zeus’ Lightning bolt was stolen! Zeus thought Poseidon sent someone to steal it, so he accused Percy! But Percy did not do it, but Zeus was expecting his lightning bolt and Poseidon is expecting an apology on the same day, the Summer solstice! So, Percy has to go on a quest to go find who has the bolt and get it. After he gets the bolt, he has to go to the 600 th floor of the Empire State building and return the bolt to Zeus before it is too late! If he fails, World War III will happen!

S OLUTION Along the way, Percy was asked to do a favor for Ares. Ares gave him a backpack with money in it. What Percy did not know is that the lightning bolt was in the backpack! So, he went to Hades and said,” I think you stole the lightning bolt. I want to return it. Return it to me and I will bring it back.” But he did not have it. Once he told Percy, Percy did not believe it. So they went back to check the backpack and they saw a cylinder like shape, like a lightning bolt without color! So, they had to get to the Empire State building, and they got there right on-time! So, he was reunited with his mom(because she got crushed by the Minotaur) and finished school.

M Y FAVORITE P ART My favorite part is when Annabeth plays with Cerberus and finds out that Cerberus likes red rubber balls. I like that part because it is hilarious to think about a three-headed dog playing with a girl smaller than an eighth of the dogs body and the dog is playing with a red rubber ball.

W HY YOU SHOULD READ THE BOOK ! You know why YOU should read the book!? Well, if you don’t, I’ll tell you! This book, The Lightning Thief, is filled with action packed parts like when Mrs.Dodds swooped down and tried to attack Percy! So, that is why you should read The Lightning Thief.

T HE R ATING FOR THE B OOK ! I would give it WWWW:Wikitastic! It is such a good book and I love a lot of action in a book, and it has exactly that, as I said for the last slide, it is action packed!
