Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief By: Rick Riordan

About The Author Rick Riordan was raised in Texas and went to Alamo Heights High School. He went to the University of Texas at Austin for college. After college, Rick became a teacher and taught English and history, including Greek Mythology. Rick is the author of many fantastic books that include adventure and thrilling mysteries. Now, Rick Riordan lives San Antonio with his wife and two children, who inspire Rick to write these amazing stories.

In the beginning, Percy Jackson lived struggling with dyslexia and ADHD. Percy is Poseidon’s son, not knowing it, so he has somewhat of a relationship with the Gods. Grover, Percy’s best friend, has been secretly protecting Percy his whole life. Percy has been the targeted suspect for Zeus’ stolen lightning bolt. Percy has to try to find the bolt, that he did not steal and bring it back in time.

In the middle of the story, Percy, Grover and his mom head off to find the lightning bolt. Percy’s mom knows that the Gods are out to get him and she heads toward “Camp Half-blood” which is perfect for Percy, being a demigod. On their way to the camp, Percy’s mom gets captured by a Minotaur. The only way to get her is to go to the underworld, and the only way to go to the underworld is to get three special pearls. Grover and Percy train in Camp Half-blood and one day they decided to leave and find Percy’s mom and the lightning bolt. They gather a Camp Half-blood friend, Anna Beth, to help.

In the end, Luke, a fellow Half-blood member, stole the lightning bolt and secretly put it in Percy’s shield. Percy was blamed but knew the real truth. Percy and his friends got all of the pearls to go to the underworld and made it in. They saved Percy’s mom and brought her back to safety. They struggled to get the lightning bolt back to Mount Olympus. They tried to bring it back to prove to the Gods that he had not stolen it. Luke had tried to stop Percy by fighting on the top of Mount Olympus, but of course, Percy won. They brought the bolt back to Zeus and Percy was relieved because they believed him.
