2/15/12  In terms of the SAPS annual report 2010/2011 the following crime categories depicted increases: Assault GBH, Sexual Offences, Robbery Aggravated, Common Robbery, Burglary at residential premises and Theft out of motor vehicle.  The following clusters contributed significantly to the reported increases: Mount Road, Motherwell, East London, Butterworth, Grahamstown, Mdantsane and Mthatha. 66 CRIME OVERVIEW 2010/2011

2/15/12  The bulk of contact and property related crimes is reported in the Nelson Mandela Metro City, followed by the East London, Mdantsane and Mthatha police clusters. 99 DISTRIBUTION OF CRIME

2/15/12 Mob justice and vigilantism: – Incidents mainly occurred in Motherwell, Mthatha, Port St. Johns, Mount Frere and Mdantsane Clusters. – These incidents are attributed to the poor understanding of the legal and judiciary processes, for example, the constitutional rights of the accused person PERFORMANCE CHALLENGES

2/15/12 Proactive Measures: Increased Police Visibility in hotspot areas. Enhanced Community Policing in affected areas, by means of involving all stake holders. 2/15/12 THE STRATEGY TO ADDRESS HIGH CRIME STATIONS INTELLIGENCE -LED POLICING: Enhanced intelligence analysis and collection capacity. Focused on priority crimes. Crime Prevention  Intensified Visible Policing operations.  Utilization of specialized units such as TRT, NIU and POP in operations.  Implementation of Base Camp deployment 1414

2/15/12 Detectives Services.  Focused integrated Task Teams on priority crimes, such as stock theft, theft of motor vehicle, carjackings and cash-in- transit robberies.  Intensified tracing of wanted suspects.  Collaborate with Correctional Services including the monitoring of parolees on a monthly basis.  81 detectives redeployed back to the 13 stations from other environments.  Continuous training and skills development of detectives INTERVENTIONS TO ADDRESS CHALLENGES

2/15/ At this stage all efforts are directed towards ensuring that targets are achieved during the last quarter of the 2011/2012 financial year. The initiatives introduced to mitigate crime threats have been intensified within the thirteen prioritized stations. In terms of managing and combating crime, there is continuous assessment and re-alignment of strategies to assist all prioritized stations and other stations that are not performing well in the Province. CONCLUSION
