Research Questions Big Picture Question How do people react to confrontation? Specific Question Will nationality (Korean or American) decide how passive or aggressive high school students would react to being accused of stealing a phone that we provide to them?

Hypothesis Most of the students in Korea will act passively and try to mediate in order to preserve their relationships while most of the students in the United States will go through all of the stages of dealing with conflict.

Research Plan Who 20 male and female high school students from grades 9 to 12 Where On campus

Steps 1st volunteer leaves the phone with a random student Experimenter asks, “Where did you get that phone?” and continues to accuse the student of stealing the phone 2nd volunteer records how student reacts to the accusations

Results Passive Reactions Americans: 57% Koreans: 20% Aggressive Reactions Americans: 0% Koreans: 10%

Conclusion The results contradicted our hypothesis with Americans reacting more passively compared to Koreans.
