University Unit Name Here Overview Although schools are still the safest place that most adolescents spend their time, recent research has shown a slight increase in violent incidents in schools Related research has found that social rejection can lead to aggressive behavior The research suggests that rejection leads to 3 sets of behavior among adolescents: – Seeking acceptance – Lashing out – Withdrawal

10. University Unit Name Here Year 1 Overview Beginning Year 1, surveys will be administered to help understand how students respond to rejection Survey will be given to students in grades 9 through 11 Survey will take less than 30 minutes to complete Survey will be conducted during school hours

11. University Unit Name Here Daily Diary Sheet An additional component of the daily diary. A subset of participants will be randomly selected from survey participants for the daily diary study. The purpose of the daily diary is to capture daily experiences and reactions to feeling left out by peers. Students will complete daily diary sheets and meet with school psychology intern monthly to discuss school experiences. Students will be compensated for their participation.

University Unit Name Here School Psychologist Involvement An additional component of the initiative is that a school psychology intern will be stationed in Starkville High School The internship supervisor, Dr. Tawny McCleon, will remain the same across interns 50 freshmen and sophomores will randomly selected from both Oktibbeha County schools and the Starkville School District
