Effective and Ineffective Characteristics of a Technology Manager Samantha Vickers Dr. Murphy Due October 3, 2014

Interview Keith McCaslan— – Lander University ITS Informational Technology Consultant – Has been a technology leader for 6 months

Interview Effective technology leaders: – Keith says: “Effective technology leaders are those who embrace change. They understand that the evolving world of technology is a necessity. An effective technology leader wants to be the first to a new technology and be able to share it with others.”

Interview Ineffective technology leaders: – Keith says: “An ineffective leader would be one who blocks change or progression. They are generally not able to show or teach technology effectively to others.”

Effective Technology Leaders Enhance student learning through effective integration of technology within the classroom Possess advanced skills to lead and assist others who are lacking knowledge of technology Constantly searching for courses/training sessions that can improve and advance their skills to keep them up to date with the technology Have a personal motivation to be successful Share their power and allow others to take action Understands and embraces change—constantly learning and upgrading their skills

Ineffective Technology Leaders Are not honest and trustworthy—because of this no one follows their lead Their words and actions do not match up or are inconsistent Not good communicators or listeners to what others are saying Do not have a lot of experience with technology Do not know how to teach technology usage to someone else

Technology Leaders Overall, all of these qualities of technology leaders are qualities of any good, successful leader.
