Constitution Day 1

Preamble  We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.

Article I  Article I is the legislative branch  Section 1: Legislature is the Senate and the House of Representatives

Section 2: House of Representatives a.Chosen every: second year by the people of the several states b.Qualifications- 25 or older, a citizen of U.S. for at least 7 yrs, & must live in the state they represent c.Apportionment- Reps and direct taxes shall be apportioned among the states according to population

Section 2: House of Representatives d. Filling vacancies: the executive authority shall issue writs of election to fill vacancies e. Impeachment of officers: House chooses their speaker and other officers with power to impeach

Section 3: Senate a.Terms: 2 senators from each state, with 6 year terms b.Classification: 1/3 chosen every 2 nd year (3 classes) c.Qualifications: 30 yrs. or older, U.S. citizen for 9 yrs. or more, & lives in the state they represent

Section 3: Senate d. President of Senate:  Vice President of the U.S. e. Impeachment of President: sole power to try all impeachments f. Penalty of conviction: removal from office & disqualification to hold any other office

Section 4  The times, places and manner of holding elections for senators and representatives  The Congress shall assemble at least _____ in every year once

Section 5:Membership,Rules, Journals, & Adjournment a.Organization: Each House may determine the rules of its proceedings b.Record: Each House shall keep a journal of its proceedings c.Adjournment: Must have consent to adjourn
