Objectives To teach students to develop the skill of conducting interviews. To teach students how to work in teams and how to collect useful information from people. Also to teach students about the Olympic and Paralympic Games and their values in English. To teach students how to write projects in English through group- work and to teach them academic writing about healthy lifestyles. To connect the students to the Olympic and Paralympic values such as: respect, friendship, courage, determination, equality and to motivate them to set goals, build self-belief and make them create plans to ensure a healthy, active, and happy life. To teach students how to develop and improve presentation skills in English by doing mini-projects.

Project description +activities This mini project is devoted to the Olympic and Paralympic Games which will take place in London on July 27, Our students (12-16 years old) will learn more about how to improve their own physical activities and create a healthy and successful future for themselves. For our project to be successful, we will conduct interviews with local Olympic athletes, environmentalists and doctors who will give us good advice for a healthy life. This project will reach out to the people living in our community to inform them about the great event and teach them the value of a healthy life.

Activities 1) At the beginning of the project “Design My Future” the teachers will have a brain storming discussion with our students about the idea of the competition and share specific points (or purposes) how to chalk out a plan of action for the project. 2) To make posters and flags with the symbols of the Olympic and Paralympic Games and use them during the project activities. Some posters will be hung on the walls of our school. 3) To hold sport competitions between grades in football and volleyball. Winners will get special prizes (balls(2) 30 GEL)

Activities 4) To hold a meeting (3 rd Week), where our district Olympic athletes, doctors, environmentalists, representatives from our resource-centre, police-office, youth department and government will be invited: At the end of the meeting our students will conduct interviews with them about healthy lifestyles. The students will use their opinion and take photos for the school newspaper. Each of our guests will give us good advice on a healthy life. The guests will have a talk and share their opinions and ideas with our students about the International Olympic Games, about our district Olympic athletes—how they have achieved their athletic goals and what kind of lifestyle they have led. Doctors, environmentalists and policemen will speak about how to maintain a healthy lifestyle, keep our environment clean, get rid of dangerous influences and especially—drugs, what our school administration must do in order to clear the way for our students to lead a healthy life.

Activities 5) To keep a healthy environment: Our school will clean the territory of the school and the street. The students will plant some trees and flowers at school. 6) To make posters with the brief information of Olympic and Paralympic Games, their values and leave them to the journal and newspaper saleswoman in the centre-shop in order to give them to the people buying newspapers and journals. So the people will be informed about this great sporting event in London. 7) To demonstrate special rules (4-5) on the posters for our students how to keep themselves strong, healthy and clean and stick them on the walls of our school.

Activities 8) To have a telephone conversation with our former student living in London and conduct an interview about the Olympic and Paralympic Games—how London is preparing for this great world sport event, simply: “What’s up?” and then tell our students about it. 9) To hold a flash mob in the centre of our town— Sagarejo with our students dressed in the Olympic Rings’ colours and demonstrate some beautiful sport-exercises and dances.

Activities 10) To organize a T.V. viewing on the day of opening Olympic and Paralympic Games in London and watch it together with our students in the Youth Department Centre. 11) To buy a special gift (Olympic flag and torch) for our school to commemorate the Great Olympic and Paralympic Games being held in London (price=10 GEL) 12) If our project wins and we are able to achieve all the objectives given in it we will make a big visual photo poster and a video to post on-line to demonstrate each of our student’s activities.

Expected results 1) The students will have gained the skill of conducting interviews. 2)The students will have learned how to work in teams and to collect useful information from people. The students will also have been taught about the Olympic and Paralympic Games and their values in English. 3)The students will have been taught how to write projects in English through group-work and academic writing about healthy lifestyles. 4) The students will have connected to the Olympic and Paralympic values such as: respect, friendship, courage, determination, and equality. 5) The students will have been taught how to develop and improve presentation skills in English by doing mini project presentations in English.
