The Special Olympics were first held in America in 1968.
These games are for people with intellectual disabilities.
They are held every 4 years.
The training and Games help these athletes to develop their sporting skills and to enjoy taking part in sporting events with others.
The Special Olympics were held in Ireland in 2003.
This was the first time the Games were held outside of America.
Over 7,000 athletes from all over the world took part.
The opening and closing ceremonies were held in Croke Park
