The Treaty of Versailles

What was it? When was it signed? Who signed it? What measures were included?

What was it? The Treaty was an agreement put together by the victorious powers to impose restrictions on Germany at the end of the war.

When was it signed? It was signed on 28 June 1919 at the Palace of Versailles just outside Paris.

Who signed it? Although as many as 26 nations were at some stage involved in drawing up the treaty, it eventually came down to the 3 ‘major’ winning powers (also known as The Big Three) to decide on what measures would be taken against Germany Each of the victorious powers had different aims

America’s aims Woodrow Wilson The American President 1920’s New York

America’s aims Woodrow Wilson The American President American public opinion didn’t want Germany treated too badly. They were quite happy to resume trading arrangements with Germany and not get involved much further
